Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What will my scalp look like until the grafts begin to grow in?
A. For about 7 to 10 days after surgery there will be a tiny scab where each graft (follicular unit) was placed in the scalp. After that initial phase,
as the tiny scabs begin to fall off, there will be a slight pinkness to the grafted area which is normal healing. After several weeks the grafted area should be well healed and hard to tell anything had to be done.

Q. How long does it take for transplanted hair to grow in?
A. After a short resting phase (about 10-12 weeks), the transplanted hair begins it's natural visible growth. At 6 to 7 months after surgery you will have about 50% of the full effect ( i.e. most of the transplanted hair and pre-existing hair has recovered from shock and grown in but has not fully matured by attaining it's full hair shaft diameter). Also the first regrowth may be a little wavier or kinkier than your normal hair, this is also an expected normal phenomenon. This is due to certain areas of the hair follicle maturing faster than other areas of the follicle. Do not worry, at 9 to 12 months after surgery you will attain your full growth and cosmetic result. Please be patient, hiar loss, hair re-cycling, hair re-growth takes time, but the results are worth the wait, with a lifetime natural normal growth.

Q. If I had PREVIOUS HAIR TRANSPLANT and I would like additional grafts or even NEED CORRECTIVE WORK,
can anything else be done ?

A. Yes! A softer, pleasing, natural hairline and increased natural density throughout the scalp can be achieved. Specific techniques are utilized
to 'camouflage' the previous grafts and also to re-model donor scars if necessary. Also please refer to the "corrective work" sections of the
photo gallery.

Q. What about the CONSULTATION ?
A. Dr. DiIenno provides a free, one-on-one consultation in a comfortable atmosphere prior to recommending any procedure. He personally
works with you from the very beginning
. Your desires are paramount. Various options will be discussed with you ( i.e. finesteride; minoxidil and other topical applications; laser surgery, light therapies, vitamin and herbal supplements; their costs, efficacies and side effect profiles) so that appropriate recommendations can be given on how to best achieve the hair style and look you want.

Each step of the process will be fully explained, so that you will have a clearer understanding of the current known issues concerning hair loss from male pattern and female pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia) to other mediical and non-medical reasons for hair loss: the causes, genetic and non-genetic; the treatments and remedies, surgical and non-surgical and their relevance to you.

Q. What is the charge for this service?
A. The cost per client varies depending on the number of grafts needed per session, the number of sessions that may be needed, and the donor
hair availability to achieve the result you desire. The consultation is free, and you may be surprised by how reasonable the cost is for the grafting process. Dr. DiIenno offers the most competitive prices. Financing is available. Major credit cards are accepted.

Q. What if I live outside of Florida? Can I get a consult?
A. Yes! If you live outside the Greater Tampa Bay area, simple photographs of your head are needed. Please call the office for the instructions on what photographs we require. Once Dr. DiIenno reviews these photographs, he will call you to discuss his findings and what options are available to you.
